EIA Community Orientation Workshops

With the aim to create greater understanding about the English in Action Programme and it’s school based interventions, 30 Community Orientation Workshops were organized in 20 selected upazilas. Workshops were conducted separately for Primary and Secondary sectors between December’09 and January’10. Representatives from 6 local education stakeholder groups including Head Teachers, Parents, School management committee members, Govt. education officials, Local educationalist and Media and NGO representatives participated in this half day orientation session. The workshops created great enthusiasm and interest among the stakeholders about EIA and the participants also expressed their commitment to extend full support and cooperation while implementing EIA activities in the field.

A brief about EIA activities including, the partners, teaching-learning and teacher professional development materials, teacher support package and use of technology (mp3 players and speakers) were the main highlights of the workshop. However, there was also room for interaction and discussion where participants were able to share their views of current challenges in the education sector broadly, inside the classrooms (in relation to both physical facilities and quality), Govt. policies and also seek clarifications about the EIA programme – how it has taken the realities into account.

The level of enthusiasm and commitment among the participants were highly encouraging. Their views, suggestions and commitment are invaluable for English in Action.
