A rhyme: Sleepy Head

01. Hello song

Play the Hello song and ask students to sing with the audio.


02. Textbook picture
10 min
  • Get students to open their book at page 53 and ask, “What time of day it is in the picture?”
  • Elicit from students meaning of the words corresponding to the pictures in the poster, e.g. stars, moon, etc.
  • Ask students to say what they do before they go to bed, and elicit meaning of the words wash face, brush teeth etc.
  • Then write the words on the board.

 

03. Audio (Lesson 18)
15 min
  • Hang the poster on the wall and review what is in the poster.
  • Play the audio and follow the PAUSE and PLAY signal. Encourage students to interact/respond.
  • Ask students some simple questions to check if they have understood the audio.


04. Rhyme
5 min
  • Read aloud the first eight lines of the rhyme to the class.
  • Read the first eight lines of the rhyme again and ask students to read aloud after you.
  • Then ask students to practise the rhyme in pairs.

 

05. Writing
5 min

Ask students to write a sentence on what they do before going to sleep at night. Let them use relevant words/phrases written on the board and check their writing with a partner next to them. Then ask them to present their sentence to the whole class.


06. Goodbye song

Play the Goodbye song and ask students to sing with the audio.

02. Game
5 min

Invite one of the students to come to the front of the class and to act out what he or she does before going to sleep at night. Then ask the rest of the class, “What is he/she doing?” and elicit- drinking, washing his/her face, brushing his/her teeth, combing his/her hair. Write the response in full sentence on the board, e.g. “He is washing his face”, etc. Finally, ask students to write the sentences in their notebook.


03. Audio

  • Hang the poster on the wall and review what is in the poster.
  • Play the audio and follow the PAUSE and PLAY signal. Encourage students to interact/respond.
  • Ask students some simple questions to check if they have understood the audio.

05. Pronunciation

  • Ask students in pairs to identify the rhyming words from the rhyme, e.g. head/bed, moon/soon, high/sky, peeping/sleeping.
  • Then get them to play a game: one student will say a word and another student of the class with say the rhyming word accordingly. Ensure using all of the rhyming words students have learnt from the lesson.

06. Goodbye song

Play the Goodbye song and ask students to sing with the audio.
